Room 4 Science

Our Year 7 and 8 students are very lucky to have specialist science teaching during the week in our on site science lab. They have learned about how pressure affects gases and liquids, and put this to a practical test with bottle rockets. Donald and Jade won the topic prize for the Southland Science Fair with their presentation 'Time for Shaking', walking away with a cool fifty dollars each. Their investigation delved into the times of day earthquakes occur. Donald and Jade found earthquakes were most likely between 6pm and 11pm in New Zealand... keep an eye on the clock!

Ascot Academy

Ascot Academy is a programme designed to promote leadership and independence, though exposing our senior leaders to new challenges and opportunities both in and out of school. Last Tuesday the members of Ascot Academy visited the Seriously Good Chocolate Company, where they learned about the process and technology of chocolate making. They have also learned how to cook healthy meals like vege filled stir frys... it's not all about chocolate!

Seniors Enrich Visit

Last Friday many of the students from the Senior part of the School spent a whole day at Enrich@ILT, the learning centre on Don Street. They learned how to use the computer programme 'iMovie', which allows you to cut and edit film clips, and add sound effects, music, captions and credits to movies. Check out the slideshow below for photos of our Ascot seniors enjoying this opportunity!
